"Records Management Resurgence: Using Outreach, Education, and Cross-departmental Partnerships to Revive or Jumpstart a Records Program"

OVERVIEW: Regardless of size or type of institution, records programs are often overlooked and under-supported. As RIM professionals, we know that our work is essential for the overall health and success of our organization.

However, some folks within our organizations may not agree. The challenge then (made even more difficult for nascent or stagnant records programs), becomes how to demonstrate and quantify the value a quality records management program can provide.

With input from two higher education records management professionals, one city records manager, and one county records manager, we will demonstrate several ways you can use outreach, cross-departmental partnerships, and education to bolster support and appreciation for the work RIM professionals provide.

We will discuss understanding your organization's internal culture, identifying pain points that can be addressed with RIM and share tools that we employ to achieve higher effectiveness within our unique environments. Following the presentation, we will engage in a panel discussion to allow further exploration of the topic.

We believe that generating understanding of and support for Records Management is one of the larger, and most pressing, challenges facing Records Management teams today. Our four perspectives represent a range of budgets and institutional cultures, but we have all found unique, institution-agnostic ways to build support for our programs.
