AC25 | Session 19

"The Same As It Never Was: Embracing Change to Meet Goals and Empower Teams"

OVERVIEW: Do you have a small team which handles many different work objectives? Do you often find yourself scrambling to staff critical areas while mitigating team burnout? How flexible is your team when responding to new challenges? Managing small teams is all about balancing objectives with capacity, productivity with sustainability, and efficiency with flexibility. While we can all wish for more staff, we can also improve by removing silos in existing teams and encouraging intra-unit collaboration.

In this session State Records Manager, Kris Stenson will talk about his experience taking over disparate business areas and trying to make them into a cohesive unit. Topics will include bodies of work analyses, position description and classification reviews, unit mergers and rebranding, team building activities, recruitment, and more. Everyone from unit managers to directors will benefit from this broad discussion as we look at how deliberate and focused changes can dramatically revamp a unit’s outlook.
