OVERVIEW: No agency wants the next headline about missing or mismanaged text message public records to be about them. The City of Issaquah, WA, sought to get ahead of the issue and create a policy that would help ensure it never ended up on the front page.

The Issaquah Clerks were tasked with writing a policy that guided staff and elected officials in complying with use, preservation, and destruction of text messages. Through partnership with IT and discussion with staff who worked in the field, they soon learned that this would be no simple matter.

This webinar presentation, Sponsored by Smarsh, will outline the considerations the City of Issaquah had to balance to achieve their policy objectives. Attendees of this webinar will walk away with a better idea of how to implement a successful text message policy or text message archival program.
