Call for Submissions: NAGARA Representative for NHPRC 

NAGARA is now inviting qualified individuals interested in volunteering as the NAGARA representative on the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC) to complete and submit this Volunteer Position Interest Form for consideration of appointment.

About NHPRC: Established by Congress in 1934 and affiliated with the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), NHPRC is a statutory body that supports activities to preserve, publish, and promote the use of U.S. historical documents in various formats. NHPRC is chaired by the Archivist of the United States and consists of a 15-member body representing all branches of the Federal Government and professional associations of archivists, historians, and records administrators. Selection Process

Individuals interested in this opportunity are invited to complete and submit this Volunteer Position Interest Form by October 4, 2024. A Special Committee of the NAGARA Board of Directors will then review your information and arrange a time to talk with you further about your interest. A selection will be presented to the Board of Directors for appointment and confirmation by late Fall.

Commitment

  • Meeting Frequency: Twice a year (in May and November) at the Historic Archives Building in downtown Washington, D.C. (travel expenses covered by NHPRC) 
  • Preparation: Approximately 50 hours per meeting to review materials including 50-60 grant applications.
  • Annual Time Investment: Estimated 120-150 hours.
  • Term: Initial term of up to four years, with the possibility of reappointment for a second term and an additional year if needed.

What you bring to the table:

  • Active and knowledgeable professional in government archives or records management
  • Active and involved NAGARA member
  • Familiarity with grants processes, including experience applying for or awarding grants
