NAGARA Welcomes Shogan Nomination

The National Association of Government Archives and Records Administrators (NAGARA) welcomes the Biden administration’s nomination of Dr. Colleen Shogan for the position of Archivist of the United States (AOTUS).

We look forward to learning more about her vision for the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and how NARA can fulfill its critical mission related to public records. NARA’s leadership in managing federal archives and records is essential to efficient government operations and key to ensuring accountability, transparency, and trust of federal entities. AOTUS must discharge the duties of the office in a professional manner insulated from partisan politics.

NAGARA, along with other major national organizations representing archivists and records managers, issued in December 2020 a white paper laying out our positions related to federal records and archives issues for the Biden administration. During Dr. Shogan's confirmation process, NAGARA anticipates she will  elaborate on how NARA can continue its leadership on these issues during her tenure.

NAGARA foresees building an important relationship with the new AOTUS and working together in support of NARA’s mission.
