"Details on a Dime: Project Management with Office 365"

 

OVERVIEW: This session showcases real-world ways to manage projects and collaborate using Microsoft 365 tools that are freely available to many government employees.

Generative AI/ Planner: Rachel Wilson, Senior Records Consultant at the Washington State Archives, shares a practical perspective on using generative AI to reduce the overhead of planning and tracking records management work within Microsoft 365 tools like Planner.

Teams/Planner: Beth Crowner, Records Management Coordinator at Ohio State University, demonstrates setting up a kanban board in Microsoft Teams via the Microsoft Planner app, where she tracks long-term projects and next steps for an average of 30-40 ongoing projects.

Whiteboard: Megan Shoemaker, Senior Records Consultant at the Washington State Archives, talks about how to use Microsoft Whiteboard to collaborate and interact with others in a virtual environment.

After attending this presentation, participants will have learned practical project management approaches using Microsoft 365 tools they already have - no extra software or "fancy widgets" required.

Rachel Wilson is an archival and information management specialist who helps make complex data and media systems accessible, sustainable, and useful. With a background in moving image archives and public records, their focus on thoughtful preservation and long-term access that serves real communities. They are also passionate about public transit, walkable cities, and toast.

Beth Crowner is the Records Management Coordinator for Ohio State University, where she works with updating retention schedules, programming OnBase retention, and creating training for records compliance. She also works with employees on de-cluttering and submitting Certificates of Records Destruction. Previously, she has worked in medical records and administration, human resources, and as an archivist. She obtained dual degrees in History and Japanese from Ohio State University, lived in Hokkaido for several years before obtaining her Master’s in Archives and Records Management from Simmons University. She currently resides in Ohio, where she spends her free time writing, painting, and watching classic car shows.

Megan Shoemaker is a Senior Records Consultant for Washington State Archives where she assists in the development of retention schedules, leads records management training, and provides records management guidance consultation services for state and local government agencies. Megan has an M.A. from Western Washington University in Archives and Records Management and has previously worked for the U.S. Dept. of State, the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies, and the Western Washington University Archives and Records Center.
