CREDITS:  Preapproved for 1 CEU (ARMA International), 1 ARC (ACA), and 1 GARA Study Hour (GARA Certificate Program)

GARA CERTIFICATE CORE COMPETENCY AREA(S): "Records and Information Management Basics" OR "Archives and Long-term Preservation"

DURATION: ~60 Minutes

OVERVIEW: In this webinar presentation, author of the book "Immigrant Secrets" John Mancini tells the story of the role of records and archives in discovering the truth of his grandparents’ lives, and discuss how the book provides the context for a broader reflection on the nature of records management and information governance in an era of breathtaking levels of technology disruption.

John Mancini's father - a kind and quirky happily married man and father of six, now gone for 34 years - NEVER discussed his family. The only thing know was that his parents were Italian immigrants and died in the 1930s. Except they didn’t. How did these two unknown grandparents simply disappear? Why? How does such a thing happen?

The author discusses the following:

What he learned along this journey about records and archives and the people entrusted with their care.
What steps do we need to take NOW to make sure that future generations have access to the history that we are creating EVERY DAY.
What information stewardship looks like in an era of rampant digital information chaos.
Why governance matters (not just to make our organizations safer and more productive, but to how our society will be remembered).
How we want future generations to view our profession.
