"What Do We Really Have? Conducting a Records Audit That Works"
May 7, 2026

OVERVIEW: A records audit is one of the most effective tools an entity can use to understand what records it has, where they are stored, and how well current practices align with records retention requirements. Many records professionals know they should conduct a records audit - but aren't sure where to begin or how to make it manageable.

This webinar will walk participants through practical methods for planning an audit; engaging departments; collecting useful data; and turning audit findings into actionable steps. Attendees will learn how to approach an audit in a way that is manageable, collaborative, and tailored to the unique needs of the organization.

After attending this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Define what a records audit is (and what it is not)
  • Develop a basic plan and scope for a records audit
  • Communicate effectively with departments during the audit process
  • Analyze audit results to support retention schedules and policy updates
