"Where to Start and Where to Go: Lessons from the First Two Years"
March 5, 2026

OVERVIEW: In the spring of 2024, the Town of Monument, Colorado hired its first Records Manager. This session explores the creation of a Records and Information Management (RIM) program from the ground up, highlighting how a newly appointed Records Officer planned, implemented, and adapted the program to meet the needs of a staff of fewer than 100. The session will outline early considerations, practical steps, and the ongoing flexibility required to build a sustainable records management function in a small but growing organization.

After attending this webinar, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify existing records elements already in place
  • Identify opportunities and resources available to RIM professionals or teams
  • Build rapport with stakeholders and develop educational initiatives tailored to their needs
  • Understand the challenges and advantages of implementing processes as the program evolves

After attending this webinar, attendees will be able to understand how to start a program for disposing of data, build trust and partnerships with key departments, and recognize the benefits of removing obsolete data.
