NAGARA would like to acknowledge that the 2023 NAGARA Annual Conference will take place on land that is the traditional and ancestral homeland of The Osage Nation, the Myaamia known now as the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma resulting of the removal from their ancestral lands following the Treaty of Greenville in 1795 and the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the Shawandasse Tula (Shawanwaki/Shawnee) removed from Ohio following the Indian Removal Act of 1830, the Kaskaskia who joined in a formal union with the Peoria Tribe and were granted 150 sections on the Osage Reserve in Miami County, Kansas following two treaties signed in 1832, the Hopewell and Adena Cultures, neither have been linked to a modern Native American Tribe and are both known for their earthworks and mounds.
